Important announcement about ISIS homeopathic software

Posted on

After several years of development I released the ISIS homeopathic software in 2003. ISIS has gone through several advancements and transformations in the past 13 years, with v2 being released in 2005 and ISIS Vision being released in 2007.

I originally chose the name ISIS in representation of the Egyptian and then Greco-Roman deity of 'Health and Wisdom'. I thought it was a fitting name for my new homeopathic software. The name ISIS was originally suggested to me by Paul and Yolande Grill and I willingly embraced it.

For the past few years I have often been advised that, due to the emergence of 'so-called' Islamic State, the name ISIS had acquired a bad association. This situation has recently got even worse with major institutions and some corporations even preventing Miccant emails containing the word 'ISIS' from being permitted on their servers. Homeopaths would tell me, and I would see posts on Facebook, that they were 'frightened' to even click on our links for fear of what might be associated with them.

It is with great regret that I have decided to change the name of the software. From now on it will be known simply as : Vision. I know that many of you, like myself, have become very attached to the name ISIS and will be very sad about this announcement.  Unfortunately I can see no alternative having resisted for as long as I could.

Currently we are preparing our new revised website which will also remove all references to ISIS and replace it with Vision. As this new website has started to roll-out around the world I would like to share this new website with you when it is thoroughly tested and ready for use.

Please feel free to make any comments in the section below. I would like to know how you feel about this decision. Wherever appropriate I ask you to share this announcement with your friends and colleagues to make sure they do not think that ISIS is 'stopping'  but simply 'transforming' into Vision.

I really do understand your motives. I would do the same and I wondered and partly admired your constancy for holding on to it so long. When is the Mac Version of Vision is released ? (good there is no terror organisation called Mac!! or maybe there is ;-)) Kindly regards Dietmar

Excellent decision to change away from 'ISIS' to 'VISION'. It's a great name in its own right, and 'ISIS' has certainly gained serious drawbacks in recent years.

David, so heartbreaking to have to give up such a lovely name for a great homeopathic program. It takes courage to let go and what a wonderful name to follow with. I do hope no one with destructive inclinations will capture VISION for themselves. I am very excited about the Mac version, as I am very cumbersomely working with Parallels on my Mac. I pull my hat to you, that whatever the outer circumstances, you continue to follow your calling and live your creativity - this is one way to bring love and beauty into a world where some live out necrophilia.

I'm really sad that you felt you had to change the name of the program and although I do understand why I feel it's important for us to reclaim Isis's name for her true meaning. I don't believe it's by chance that her name has become smeared at this time when many of us are aware that we are actually moving into a new era where the feminine is becoming more empowered to create balance in this previously and still very patriarchal world. I do feel that we need to reclaim her name similar to the way the Union Jack became a fashion item which stopped it's often racist connotations. But I do totally understand your predicament. Isn't there some way in which you could still honour your original intent by choosing her name. Why not Horus?! ; )

Oh David, by any name, the software will remain awesome and of great value to us all. And in the spirit of the Goddess, and the ancient Egyptians, 'May you live forever'. Of course Paul will be dissapointed. Here's one of my all time favorite quotes (From The Little Prince): 'It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.' Perhaps, we can evolve the word so that when we say Vision, we are talking about our heart's knowing. With love and appreciation for all that you have done for our community. Y

Isis was a nobel goddess (see below) and your programme was aptly named. What a great tragedy this name has been subverted. It would seem you had no choice but Vision is a good alternative. Here is a something from the internet, 'Isis was worshipped as the ideal mother and wife as well as the patroness of nature and magic. She was the friend of slaves, sinners, artisans and the downtrodden, but she also listened to the prayers of the wealthy, maidens, Isis is often depicted as the mother of Horus, the falcon-headed deity associated with king and kingship (although in some traditions Horus's mother was Hathor). Isis is also known as protector of the dead and goddess of children.' A nobel name indeed.

I understand the pressures to comply with public relations, and I am still very sorry that people feel cowed by negative associations with words. ISIS as a terrorist organization has been renamed to ISIL, but unfortunately, the former moniker has stuck in consciousness. As a feminist and a Priestess of Divine Mother Isis in the Order of Magdalen, I am saddened and offended by the misappropriation of a very sacred name that has been in the hearts, minds, and tongues of humankind for many millennia. As a homeopath, I am disappointed that organizations such as Miccant are being forced to change their own personal avatar as it clearly aligns symbolically and energetically with the mission and focus of the product and the company. Alas, we work in vibrational frequency and consciousness, and we are the small minority. I wish you all the best, and I continue to proudly use and support Miccant and Isis-now-Vision. With kind regards, Marnie McKnight-Favell New York, USA

David, I agree. It's been harder and harder to be comfortable with the name of our software when 'Isis' is all anyone is talking about anymore--and not in a good way! But I have to agree with Hans who said that the replacement name, 'Vision' seems uninspired. Here's what he said: 'Vision is already part of many brand names like World Vision, Vision Capital, Vision Sensor and many others. Up to now Isis was the expression being in mind, Vision only an addendum without deeper significance. If you choose a new name then please a completely new one.' I agree. Please, a completely new one! Rather than feeling like I'm losing something or something is being truncated or taken away, I would rather have something brand new, like getting a gift. Please come up with something that has more 'spark' to it. You could even keep 'Vision' but put some word in front of it--or at the end of it. Thanks for listening.

Additionally I can confirm that we are actively developing our Mac OSX version of Vision. It has taken us quite a long time already and will still take more time. I do not have a release date yet but rest assured we are working really hard to complete as quickly as we can.

I wanted to answer a couple of specific questions asked............ Next week we will be issuing an update to Vision. Those of you who already have ISIS installed will not notice a great change except that the word ISIS will be replaced by the word Vision once you actually start up. From today brand new users of Vision will only ever see Vision with a nice, new desktop shortcut (the Miccant Control Centre has been dropped for brand new users).

It has been long in my feeling that ISIS provokes associations with these terrorists and therefore it is necessary to change the name. But reducing to the appendix doesn't sound good to me. 'Vision' is about everything and nothing, it's not individual enough. In the first moment I thought, changing ISIS to IRIS would be an option, but maybe as 'IRIS Vision' it would remind at iridology. But let us search for a name which IS a vision and not only sounds like that. Let's go ahead and not back!

Hi David, sorry to hear about such silly people and their reactions. I understand that you have to react, enforcedly. Yet the name Vision does not seem an adequate thing for this programme, as Vision is already part of many brand names like World Vision, Vision Capital, Vision Sensor and many others. Up to now Isis was the expression being in mind, Vision only an addendum without deeper significance. If you choose a new name then please a completely new one, a unique feature, maybe in connection with homoeopathy. Instead of telling us the new name I think it would be a good idea to ask users for suggestions for a new name. Sorry to say, but I think just reducing it to Vision is a bit uninspired. Amongst the users there are surely a few with linguistic imagination.

Firstly, let me say THANK GODDESS (pun intended) you are not closing shop!!! Which is what I feared as I started reading the email. Secondly, I have ardently corrected those using the acronym ISIS for that murderous group rather than the correct acronym ISIL (see this link for info if necessary: http://www.dailynewsbin.com/opinion/why-president-obamas-use-of-isil-vs-isis-drives-uneducated-people-crazy/23182/) Lastly, I'd like to offer a solution by suggesting HYGEIA (the goddess of good health. She was a daughter and attendant of the medicine-god) or her Roman name, Salus. I am saddened to think another positive name or symbol will now be demonized as the pagan symbols/names/practices of honoring the earth were demonized by 'organized religion' in the past. Whatever you decide, I stand by you, your company & Isis! Warm regards, Michelle Kardys

It makes sense to remove any negative association for the purpose of further use and development, although at the same time there is always the hope of dispelling negativity through positive use and endorsement, and not allowing a destructive entitiy to take ownership of a name - however if the name affects the use so drastically, it needs to be changed. Best wishes.

Totally understand your reasons for the name change and Vision is totally acceptable. it is what lies behind the name that really matters.

Hi David, I think it is a very good idea. The name Isis has such a dreadful memory that every time you boot up the program it has a negative connotation. So in my mind a very good idea to change to Vision. Very positive. Thank you. M

I am really sad about this...their name should be changed to avoid misinformation... But there you go even an old goddess isn't safe any more..

Hello David, Shame I too love ISIS (diety of Health and Wisdom). However I agree with your decision and am very glad you picked Vision. A suitable replacement. And at least it is in the middle of the word so keeps a link. Best wishes with the new name.

Hi David I understand that this must have been a difficult decision for you and that it is very frustrating for you. I agree with your decision purely because of the world we live in. When I saw the initial email I wondered if you were stopping the product that would have far more impact for me than a name change, so I express my thanks that you continue to offer the product and develop it. Best wishes. Karen

How very sad for you - it's always difficult when you have built up brand recognition to lose that name. However, I am sure you are doing the right thing. I wish you lots of new customers for the future with Vision!

Hello, I'm easy about the name change and totally understand your reasons. I totally love the software, so not attached to its name. What I'd truly love though is a Mac friendly version. I currently use parallels but it's all a bit of a faff! Any sign of this being possible? Love, Kate X

Thank you for the information. It's sad that you had to change the name as we too were so used to it. But at the same time, vision describes the objective of the software better, so let's be objective about it as I'm sure many of us faced this problem regarding the name. All the best for the future!

It's sad but good idea ...I am using this software since 10 years....'To acquire knowledge, one must study; but to acquire wisdom, one must observe'.....best wishes David sir...

Totally understand the unfortunate reasons behind the change. I'm sure it won't impact on your existing customers as they will judge you on the product and service, rather than the name of the company.

Sorry, that you have this trouble, bur for preventing further problems it is a good idea to change the name. Nothing in the world is forever, even the names.

I was wondering when will that happen! It was a bit of unfortunate name in current state of affairs. You have a great product but changing the name seems like a good idea.

Sorry the state of the world has impinged on your lovely name. The Egyptian goddess Isis would I believe be appalled by how her name has been co-opted for fear and terror. Be well.

Thank you. I think this is a good idea. Vision describe the software better than ISIS does, even though I'm used to the name ISIS. I'm happy to call it Vision. Will you be rolling out updates to the software itself, removing the name ISIS?

I feel sad , that you have to change the name. I have been associated with this software for more than 10 yrs and love it, as I use it daily. But , as times change, it's better , that the name changes. Since , it's a difficult time , just now all over the world. Best wishes.

THANK YOU FOR THE INFO AND THANK YOU FOR FINALLY GETTING WITH TIMES! I UNDERSTAND COMPLETELY BECAUSE I USED TO OWN AN EMPLOYMENT AGENCY WITH THE TITLE AIDS, INC AND THEN ALONG CAME THE AIDS "EPIDEMIC"............SO BEEN THERE DONE THAT! I FOR ONE FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR NAME CHANGE AND BELIEVE ME-BASED ON EXPERIENCE-YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY FOR CHANGING THE NAME...........VISION IS A FAR MORE METAPHORIC AND REALISTIC TITLE NAME FOR A PROGRAM THAT "FORSEES" OUTCOMES AND OFFERS "INSIGHTFUL" GUIDANCE TO HOMEOPATHIC PRACTIONERS.........SO ENJOY YOUR DECISION.............."LOOKING" FORWARD TO CONTINUED RELATIONSHIPS WITH MICCANT..........
